Observing Spatiotemporal Inconsistency of Erosion and Accretion in the Barak River Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques

Alluvial rivers all over the world have one common problem, which is their meandering pattern. This meander formation because of natural and anthropogenic processes. Barak River dynamic, due to this, it exposed regular shifting creates many problems for people who reside near river. The livelihood depends on agriculture, they conduct nearby sides However, riverbanks makes life miserable leads severe economic losses. Further, roadways railways run along banks River, during monsoon, Assam (Silchar), with three states, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, become disconnected from rest India road rail connections fail riverbank erosion. Therefore, considering catchment area importance this river, we tried understand spatiotemporal changes (erosion, deposition, unchanged area) in River. From our analysis, found that maximum minimum amount erosion occurred 2012–2017 2002–2012 were 727.56 ha 332.69 ha, respectively. While highest deposition 1984–2017 was 1054.21 351.32. Overall, identified under more dynamic than 1984–2017. Moreover, temporal analysis land use/land cover 1984–2017, comes settlement arable has increased by 10.47% 5.05%, factors, such as nature channel gradient, cover, riparian vegetative could be probable driving forces cause erosional depositional areas. study will help us dynamics other type worldwide. shall implement strategies manage bank adapting scientific protection measures.
